My Top 5 Favourite Books

Hey guys, this is Ravisha Pushkar and for my first blog post I  would like to list my 5 most favourite books. My blogposts are going to be all about books and I'll be posting a blog article every week. There will be book reviews, reading tips, subscription box reviews and much more.
I am an avid reader and I am reading a book always. Though I don’t claim to know everything about reading or to have read all the books present but reading is my passion and therefore I would try my best to keep the posts interesting and also to be helpful.
So for this post I decided to list down my 5 favourite books. Now I would like to tell you guys that this list is obviously based on the books which I’ve read till date and I know that it will be updated in the future as I’ll read many more wonderful books (yes, I’m sure about that :P) and I won’t forget to update you people about it. :D

  1.        The Diary of a Young Girl- Anne Frank

So ya I guess many of you people must have read this book since it’s so famous and therefore you people must already know that how beautiful it is. This was the first book I started with when I first started reading back in eighth standard and it had a great impact on me. It is basically a diary of a thirten year old girl named Anne Frank who went into hiding with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. It was when she and her family were finally caught, they were killed in the gas chambers like every other Jew but only her father survived who finally discovered his daughter’s dairy at the hiding place and decided to publish it. It’s a wonderful book and people have been reading this book since a long time now. Since it was the first book I read, it has a special place in my heart because it made me realise that how much I'll enjoy reading and it also gave me a push to start reading books regularly. So because of being such a great read and playing an important part in my reading journey, this book tops my list of favourites!

       2.           Harry Potter- J.K. Rowling

I know it is a fact that there is no reader present in this world who doesn’t love Harry Potter. I am a crazy Harry Potter fan and I am obsessed with everything about it. I just love the series and all the seven books are equally great. I have this regret in life that I did not read the Harry Potter books during my childhood when they were first published. Like many people, I too was obsessed with the movies. But I finally read the series just two years ago and ya I openly accept the fact that reading this series has been the most beautiful thing in my life. The books are obviously better than the movie series because the books present the story in much more detail with several characters more and explain every plot in much more detail than what the movies show. The books are so good, they are so wonderfully written, they are so interesting and I personally learnt a lot from this series. The thing I most love about the Harry Potter series is that it explores everything which makes it worth loving whether it is magic, friendship, family, love, suffering and what not. It wouldn’t be fair if I am asked to pick one favourite Harry Potter book because I love them all and though it is basically a set of books, it will still be on my favourites list forever.

      3.                 The Little Prince- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

This is one of the books which is very close to my heart. It is originally a French book and is the fourth most translated book in the world and has been translated in over three hundred languages. It is basically styled as a children’s book with pictures and everything and is a very light read. The narrator describes how he comes across a young boy in the Sahara Desert who refers to himself as “the little price”. Through the journey of the little prince from his own planet to the earth and back to his planet, the book represents many observations, feelings and truth about life. It is such a nice and cute book. It teaches you so much about life. The first time I read this book, it made me feel so happy yet thoughtful. It’s one of those books which leave a smile on your face and I’ve read this book about five times now, and every time I read it, I enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed it when I first read it. Though being such a happy and cute story, I learnt a lot from it and therefore it’s definitely one of my favourite books.

  4.        The Catcher in the Rye- J.D. Salinger

Though being a classic and one of the most famous books, I’ve heard it from a lot of people that they did not like this book but personally, I am a person who is in love with this novel. It basically deals with the issue of teenage alienation and the narrator, Holden Caulfield is someone I’m in love with. So this is one of those books which do not have a great or mysterious story. It just describes the daily activities of the narrator over a period of time. It deals with issues like child-parent relationship, teenage pressure, drugs and sex. Frankly, it is a book which I’ve related to the most in my life. The problems faced by the narrator are so realistic and I think every person experiences similar problems sometime in life. It’s a book which makes me feel really good. In general, I’m a big fan of those books which are relatable and this book no doubt is a keeper for me. It’s definitely one of my favourite books and I guess will always remain on my favourites list because that’s for me  what books are about, feeling good and pondering upon life.

      5.                 Mayada the Daughter of Iraq- Jean Sasson

So if you guys have been reading the book reviews on my instagram feed (ravisha_pushkar), you would probably already know that Jean Sasson is one of my favourite authors. I just love her books mainly because they are all firsthand life experiences and are majorly focused on the lives of the women in the Middle-East. This was the first book I read of the author and trust me I’ve been reading her book ever since. This book describes the life of Mayada Al-Askari who was appointed as the translator of the author in 1998 when the author visited Baghdad. False allegations were made against Mayada that she was involved in printing anti-regime pamphlets against Saddam Hussain and she was put in the Baladiyat prison for a month. The horrors of the prison cell have been described by Mayada and also how prisoners were assaulted by Saddam Hussain himself. The book has been so beautifully written and Mayada’s story has been wonderfully brought out by the author. I am very much into the books which deal with issues in relation to females and this is one of the reasons why I love this book so much. It’s definitely one of my favourites book because it is one of those books which describes real suffering of the people and leaves me with a lot of thoughts to ponder upon.

Thank you for reading! :)
