Books I’ve Never Finished Reading

It happens a number of times with me and I guess it happens with almost every reader that we start reading a book but we are never able to finish it because of one or the other reason. This is something which has happened with me a huge number of times. Maybe I lose interest in the book, maybe the book is very depressing, etc. are some of the reasons why I generally give up on a book. Though I try never to leave books in the middle, but sometimes it becomes really difficult to get through with the whole book. So here is a list of books (as far as I can remember) which I started reading but never finished.

  • The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand:

So as everyone knows, this book is a famous classic and I started reading it last year. But it was only halfway through the book that I realised that I won’t be able to read it anymore. The book is too philosophical which is something I don’t prefer reading. I found it to be really slow and too philosophical which doesn’t match my taste as far as books are concerned and this was the only reason why I wasn’t able to finish reading this classic.

  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee:

Again, this book is a classic which makes it as philosophical as any other classic. It’s one of the most famous books ever but it was something which did not interest me at all. I found it to be too slow which is why I was not able to read this book for long. It was too intellectual which is something I do not prefer reading.

  • The Secret by Rhonda Byrne:

It’s again a very famous book but since I am not into reading non-fiction, it rarely happens that I finish reading a book which is non-fiction and is a self-help book. Frankly I found this book to be really annoying which is why I gave up on reading it just after reading a few pages of it.

  • The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith:

It’s the first book of a detective series written by J.K. Rowling under a pseudonym. Though I found the story and the mystery to be interesting, I found it to be really normal and general like all the other detective mysteries and this was the reason why I lost interest in reading the whole book. The suspense was really normal and didn’t make me fall for the book. But since it is a famous book and because I love reading thriller and mystery novels, I may give it another try in the future.

  • A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin:

So this is the third part of the Game of Thrones book series and I’ve read it whole except for the last fifteen pages of it. I love Game of Thrones series and I thoroughly enjoy reading it. I just left this book and didn’t finish it because it got too depressing and too serious and I am someone who cannot read serious stuff at a stretch. I read the first three books of the series in one go which I guess made the series too hard for me to bear. But, I’ve decided to again start this book after some time from where I left it just because I am a BIG Game of Thrones fan and I would definitely never miss on to this wonderful series.

  • Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov:

This book is a classic and is loved by every reader. The only problem which I had while reading it was that I started reading this book at a very early age and at that time I wasn’t able to comprehend with the events in the story and that is why I gave up on this book only after reading a few pages. I think I would understand it much better now and therefore I would definitely give this book another try soon.

  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson:

So this book got very famous as soon as it was released and people were just loving it and that is why I gave this book a try. I totally accept that this book is wonderful and lists down some real and harsh truths of life but the reason why I was not able to get through with this book was because I’m not a person who is into reading self-help books. I am all about the story and the interest which the book builds. This is the reason why I don’t enjoy reading such non-fiction books and I was never able to even get halfway through this book.

  • Life of Pi by Yann Martel:

This again being a very famous book was a very slow read. The story was so slow that I lost interest midway in the story. I’m someone who will continue to read a book if the story is grasping and if it maintains the pace and doesn’t get slow. I feel the story of this book was really slow and tiring which is why I was not able to finish reading it.

  • Tales from India by Rudyard Kipling:

I have no clue why I don’t enjoy reading famous books by famous authors. The same happened in the case of this book. I read three to four stories from the book but I didn’t find them to be interesting. The stories were good but they were slow which made it difficult for me to read further stories from this famous collection of short stories.

So this was my list of books I’ve never finished reading. I am definitely willing to give some of them another chance and maybe I will and if I do, I’ll definitely let you guys know!

Thank you for reading!
