Book Review: The Case of Black Magic Murders in Mumbai by Shilpa Jain

About the Book:

The Case of Black Magic Murders in Mumbai is the second book written by the author, the first being I Shall Always Love You. It is a story about the abduction of a 17 year old girl named Pari by an aghori in the city of Mumbai. The main character of the story is a crime investigation officer named Tanvi Yadav who takes upon herself to solve the case and find Pari, dead or alive. The story connects further to a number of killings and abductions taking place in a particular pattern by the tantriks and aghoris in and around the areas of Mumbai. It is revealed that the aghori who is believed to have abducted Pari had died in prison custody three years before. The story moves further and involves a number of plot lines and characters. Another twist in the story occurs when a secret ‘burqa killer’ is involved in killing all the criminals in Mumbai in order to take revenge without revealing her identity. The story ends on a note when the group of aghoris abducting and killing young girls in order to attain immortality are killed by the burqa killer and also Pari is discovered to be alive and involved in her own abduction. Tanvi Yadav who is believed to have been the burqa killer is not proven guilty and therefore an open ended question is left for the readers to ponder upon as to who was the secret killer who was secretly bringing justice to the people of the city.

Review:

I received this book as a review copy and the summary of the book sounded quite interesting and therefore I was highly excited to read it. I definitely found this book much more interesting than what I expected it to be. It was a perfect mixture of thriller and a supernatural element. I never thought that a book about black magic can ever make sense but this book proved me wrong for sure. The way the plot line of black magic and supernatural activities has been imbibed in the story is just brilliant. The main character named Tanvi Yadav is described to be a strong, independent and intelligent character which is something I really enjoyed about the story. Brave characters always make a story better and so was the case in this book. Also, the story has been written in a wonderful manner by the author. The way every character and every situation has been described by the author is something which makes reading this book a much more interesting and real experience. The way the story has been molded and the tiny bits of information have been connected to one another is just great. I’m sure that the author did put in a lot of effort to carve out the story and the suspense which it creates. It’s a perfect book to read when you are looking for something interesting or mysterious to read. It’s an amazing piece of thriller and the supernatural elements and an open ending definitely make it even more amazing. It’s a wonderful read which is written beautifully and will make you stick to it until and unless you discover the suspense at the end of it.

To Read or Not to Read:

If you are someone who is into reading thriller and mystery and also enjoy reading supernatural stuff, then this is definitely the perfect book which you should be reading. Also, if you are someone who is looking for something interesting to read then too give this book a try.
