About the Book:
Magic Square is a Novella which is a long
short story or a short novel. It is a story about a Ph.D. scholar named Amudha
who discovers a Mathematics book which contains all her research questions and
their answers written by someone. It is along with the backing up of her fellow
researcher named Dheeraj, that she sets out to find the owner of the
Mathematics book. The only clue which helps her to track the owner is a Tamil poem which is written on the last page of the book by the owner. The
story describes her journey towards finding the owner named L V Sreenivasan.
The story ends on a happy note where Amudha finally discovers the reality of
the owner and alters her life decisions by being inspired from the great
Mathematician.
Review:
I received this novella from Half Baked Beans and I
was excited to read it since the plot line sounded really interesting. It’s a
short book or I can say that it’s a long short story and therefore I was able
to finish reading it really quickly. The story was short and crisp with not too much suspense. The amount of suspense was very limited and quite less than what
I expected it to be. The climax was introduced really quickly which I felt to
be a bit unrealistic. The story is set in the present time which I think made
it quite relatable for the reader. The thing which I loved the most about the
story was definitely the main character named Amudha. I think she has been
described in a wonderful way by the author. The problems which she faces while choosing a career as a growing up adult is something which I guess is super
relatable for people of the same age. The way she has been described to deal
with her problems and alter her decisions is also something which is really
inspiring. I think that the book is a good short time read especially for
people who don’t have enough time to give to bulky novels. The story is good
but a little rushed up.
