Book Review: Once Upon a Genie by Durriya Kapasi

Book Review: Once Upon a Genie by Durriya Kapasai (Part I of the Djinn Series)

 About the Author:

Durriya Kapasi is a wonderful writer based in Udaipur and Once Upon a Genie is her first book. She is one of the strongest women I have ever come across who fought cancer and who never gave up on her passion for writing. You can check out her website by clicking on the link here and can also check out her amazing journey as covered by YouStory last year by clicking the link here.

About the Book:

Once Upon a Genie is the first book written by the author and has been a bestseller in the year 2017 when it was first published by Half Baked Beans. It is a story about a girl named Daisy who is left with a genie in a bottle by her grandmother when she dies. It is a love story of Daisy and the genie named Khalil who asks Daisy for three wishes and eventually falls in love with her. Another character which is very important to the story is Darren who is Daisy’s friend and is also in love with her. The story unfolds as Khalil starts fulfilling Daisy’s wishes and their love story moves further. It has been narrated from the view point of Daisy with a few chapters which are narrated from the viewpoints of Khalil and Darren. It is the first book of the Djinn series written by the author. The first book ends on a sad note where Khalil has to leave Daisy and her world to return to his world of the genies. The second book of the series Neverfound Land released yesterday, i.e. on 1st December, 2018 and will further deal with the story of the half breed human and genie baby which is born to Daisy. It’s basically a YA fantasy novel with an intriguing story and I can’t wait to start reading the second part of the series.

Review:

So I received this wonderful book as a kindle edition from the publishing house Half Baked Beans and I was so excited to read it. It was after a long time that I read a love story and I absolutely loved it. I am very much into reading fantasy and so this book was a treat for me. The book has been written beautifully and the plot building is commendable. The way the characters and the settings have been described is beautiful. It is a kind of a story which you could really imagine happening while reading it. The story is also amazing and my favourite has to be the ending. It was beautiful and I was satisfied with the fact that how it was not left on a happy note with a successful love story. It gave away a lot of excitement for the second part of the series. The second half of the story was definitely what I enjoyed more as the story got more serious. The way the secrets have been introduced in the story making the reader more interested in it is just wonderful. There have to be some substantial plot revealing in the second part of the series and I can’t wait to read it. Reading this book has been a great experience for me and taking out time even during my exams to read parts of it made me realise that how wonderful and interesting the book was. The way the intimacy between the characters has been depicted is also something which made me realise that what a great job the author has done in order to portray the characters and their feelings. The second part of the series released yesterday and seriously, I can’t wait a moment longer to start reading it, that’s how excited I am!
