Books That Disappointed Me

In today’s post I’ll be listing down the books which I’ve read and have been really disappointed with when I had a lot of expectations from them. I would like to tell you guys that these mentions are only from the books which I’ve read till date and if I’ll be disappointed with any other book in the future, I’ll let you guys know for sure. A detailed review of some of these books is also present on my Instagram feed (ravisha_pushkar) so don't forget to check them out.

  • Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami:

So this is a book which I read a few months back. Since people are crazy fans of Murakami books, I gave them a try by picking up the most famous Murakami book which is Norwegian Wood. I was so disappointed with the book. There was no concrete story. It was basically a YA novel with the story going nowhere. Though it dealt with some important issues and consisted of some beautiful lines but still it was not at all worth the hype. I was so excited when I started reading it, but it turned out to be really normal and nothing about it was outstanding which really disappointed me.

  • Turtles all the way Down by John Geen:

When this book was published, everybody was so excited about it. I personally enjoy reading the books written by John Green. So when I bought this book, I was really excited to read it because it was being talked about a lot everywhere and also because its beautiful hardcover. Covers are a major thing which I get attracted to when purchasing a book is concerned and therefore I bought this book. I was disappointed after finishing this book because it was not as good as I expected it to be. It comprised of a really normal story and though it also addressed important issues, it was not at all good. When I compare it to other books written by John Green, I can say that it was not good as the other books written by the author.

  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne:

It’s a fact that I am a crazy Harry Potter fan and I guess most of you people are already aware about it. I’ve read each and everything ever written in relation to Harry Potter and so when this book came out, I was really excited to read it. Though the book was already facing a lot of criticism, I still decided to give it a read. It never happens that I give up and leave a book in the middle. But this is what happened in the case of this book. It is very very disappointing for every Harry Potter fan. The story, the way it is written, the new characters, etc. There is nothing in the book which can impress a Harry Potter fan. I stopped reading the book as it was ruining the Harry Potter universe for me and the thing which I did hate most about the book was that it tried to display Harry as a very weak and negative character. It is the book which has disappointed me the most and I would never ever think about even finishing it.

  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer:

This was the first part of the Twilight series which I started reading when I was in school since I was so fascinated by the concept because of the movies made on the series. I did not like the movies much and so I decided to give the book a read. I had a lot of expectations from the book since I loved the concept of vampires. But, the book was a major turn off. It’s very cheesy and is written in a way which made me realise that I would not be able to read such a high amount of romance. It was really disappointing for me back then. Though I hear many book bloggers and YouTubers praising the series, I don’t think that I would be giving a second try to this book since I did not like it at all and I do not have any courage to read it again. It’s really a book for people who love reading romance but sadly, I’m not one of them and so it turned out to be a huge disappointment for me.

  • The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien:

Being a fantasy lover, I watched the first movie based on The Lord of The Rings series and I loved it and so I decided to give this book a try. I did not like it at all. It was bulky, it was confusing, and it was not even that interesting. I know that how famous this book series is and that how much people love it. But personally, I did not like it at all. I was told by many friends that this book is difficult to relate to since it was written a long time ago. So it may be one of the reasons why I did not like this famous series. I gave up after reading its first part and I’m definitely sure that I won’t be reading the further books of the series because I did not like the books and it turned out to be really disappointing for me.

  • Book Hunters of Katpadi by Pradeep Sebastian:

Book Hunters of Katpadi is a bibliomystery (a fictional crime story revolving around a book or a bookstore). It was the first book I read in this genre and I was so excited to read it. I bought this book because I wanted to try out reading a bibliomystery and also because it has a beautiful cover which is really attractive. I was really disappointed by this book since it was not at all as good as I expected it to be. The major turn off about the story was that only a very small part of it concentrated on the real mystery in question. I just kept reading this book for the sake of finishing it. Since I was really excited to read this book and since I had a lot of expectations from it, I was really disappointed by it and I thought that it was not at all worth it.

So these were the books that have disappointed me. What books have disappointed you? Comment below.
Thank You for reading :)
